This is a great TED-Ed video by Annie Bosler & Don Greene (“How to practice effectively…for just about anything”) explaining how neurologically practice improves our performance & the importance of quality & strategic practice comprises “effective practice”. In short how we should practice in order to maximise our time & effort for peak performance. We can also see how this effective practice explains the wisdom of how we practice in Taiji that is - slowly, deliberately, accurately, mindfully & with intention, although I believe that there are differences between intention and visualisation. The video also talks about the role of visualisation in practice which obviously has great applications for us who feel that we lack the time to practice the things we already have some skills for but ‘wish’ we had the time to keep up. You know what I mean - sporting skills, playing an instrument, dancing etc. Skills that we once invested a lot of time and energy in but now are regretfully rusty, when we could actually get a lot done through our imaginations. We could also use visualisation to practice Taiji when it is inconvenient to physically do so, and from my experience the body still relaxes accordingly.

These are my thoughts about various aspects of Tai Chi. They may or may not be original and I try to give credit where credit is due. Wee Kee Jin Workshop Series
