My generous friend & dedicated practitioner/teacher of Qigong & Full-time Qigong healer - Master Kwai Chee Low; has outlined to me a simple method to test the progress of our internal energy/Qi cultivation.
We can all practice these steps on a regular basis to develop our sensitivity to our own internal energies as well as improve our health. Master Low says:
"There's a way to check your qigong or internal energy cultivation progress.
A very simple and effective way.
First stand relaxed and grounded. Then raise your left hand from your side up to the level of your solar plexus with your palm facing upwards. Now slowly sweep your right palm across your left hand, from the shoulder down to the fingers. Do this while exhaling. Feel the sensation. Now turn your left hand such that the left palm is facing downwards. As you slowly inhale, sweep your right palm upwards over your left hand to return to your left shoulder. Feel the sensation. Repeat as many times as you want.
One more point. Once you're familiar with the sweeping movement and synchronising with your breath, the next step is to start the sweeping movement from Tanzhong (sternum) viz. your right palm faces your Tanzhong (about 2-4 inches above this point). Then as you slowly exhale, sweep your right palm slanting upwards to your left shoulder and then down the left hand to exit the fingers. Then as you slowly inhale sweep your right palm up the left hand to the shoulder and back to the sternum. Repeat say nine cycles (down and up as one cycle). Then do the same sweeping for the right hand and repeat a similar number of cycles. The benefits are: i. You can check the progress of your energy cultivation ii. The sweeping helps to clear and energise the Hand Yin and Yang meridians, especially the heart, pericardium and lungs."
I'm appreciative of Kwai Chee Low sharing this sort of knowledge, you don't get this sort of practical technique from doing a quick search on Google but more like after years of being a dedicated and trustworthy student from a knowledgeable teacher. Lets make this part of our regular practice repertoire...I know that I will.
